Persona 4 The Animation Episode 1

Just so everyone knows I have played the game and finished it 100% but I will not spoil anything. Persona 4 The Animation is probably going to be my favourite anime this season and by the first epiosode it has proven it has class. From all the stylish battle animation to the subtle and not so subtle character animation P4 has it all. All are favourite characters are back and events seem to be unfolding in a similar fashion to how it happens in the game just at a much fast pace. Although some of it is a little different. Persona 4 is a bit rushed and the pacing is all wrong. To be honest that is my only negative comment. But i feel that now that all the complex stuff is out of the way we will see some slower paced episodes. I’ve heard that the anime is going to be 24 epiaodes long so thats a good thing. The story certainly isn’t lacking action and moves at a decent speed unlike some other animes this season. Now onto the character. So far we have been introduced to Yu, Yosuke, Chie and Yukiko. Yu actually has a name this time around as well as a personality but its pretty standard at the moment. Yosuke is sticking to what he knows and is performing as the comic releif quiet well. Chie on the other hand feels a bit smarter in this version of the story and a bit cooler. Thats right I said Chie is cool.

Music wise i was disappointed that they just used an old song for the opening but i feel that might change in the next episode. Background music is a good mix of music from the game and original songs so that is great. Other stuff that’s from the game is the calendar that shows the weather and day changes. The stats screen at the break in the middle is also directly ripped from the game. It will be interesting to see how this is used in future episodes.

  1. I didn’t notice any original music (because I was too busy geeking out that they included the little things from the game like the day change and stats screen). And gotta agree that Chie is infinitely better.

A bit of derpy animation (Yosuke has an unusually pointy elbow when talking to Konishi), too, but I expect them to get better about that.

  2. I forgive the derpy animation because some of the animation was top notch. Some of those battles were really well animated. I love it how the shadow bites Isanagi’s head and he just punches it off and cuts it in half. i was geeking about so much i missed some of the dodgy stuff.

    • I sincerely hope that all Izanagi scenes are that badass, considering how easily he was replaced in the game.
