Shinryaku!? Ika Musume Episode 1

Early, so early. I wasn’t expecting this to be aired for at least a few week but i’m not complaining.

If you liked squid girl and have seen the first season then this was a great episode for a catch up of what is happening and re-establishing that Ika Musume is at the bottom of her food chain. She was lower than Chizuru and sharks in the first season and now it seems she is also lower then a jellyfish. When she realizes this she has no choice but to resume her invasion and prove to the world that she is a threat, however minor that threat may be. If you are new to the series then this episode did a good job of reexplaining all the characters and motivations to some extent. It is good to see Ika Musume is still suspicious and greatly influenced by the things she sees around her in everyday life. She will mistake a beach ball for grenade one minute and anything with a timer on it as a bomb the next. Resuming her invasion plan at the beach diner was an obvious move on her behalf and it fits the character. It is also nice to see she still has a flair for the dramatic and will stand on a table at any given chance. She kind of feels like an uneducated version of Lelouch or Light in that sense.

I might miss the old intro song a bit but i think the new one will grow on me.  On the other hand i like the new ending song much more than the old one.

I’d be willing to say that /everyone/ is lower than Chizuru. Scary, scary woman…
